Sara Lucero

Oh hello there! I’m Sara!
A Southern California desert rat turned PNW fan girl! We recently bought a house in Lake Stevens, WA and I absolutely love seeing the mountains and water from our front door. I couldn’t be more grateful. My husband and I also are having the time of our lives painting and decorating every square inch of the place.

I’ve been shooting weddings since the summer of 2010 (1 year before that man next to me and I were married) and started photographing families a little before that.
That summer was pivotal for me. I was faced with 3 really cool opportunities:
1) Study Psychology at Cal State LA
2) Become an Au Pair for a great family outside Paris
3) Fill in for a friend and shoot a wedding

I decided to shoot the wedding and then attend Cal State in the fall, but that summer wedding came and I was SOLD. I spent all day in the mountains with a couple in love on the most important day of their lives. How could you not love that? And so it began!

I got engaged and taught Steve how to be my 2nd shooter. Together we shot weddings from California to Philadelphia! Mountain Top to Wine Country. Backyards to Historic Cathedrals. It’s the best job in the world and I feel so blessed to get to be creative and make friends with my clients.

My favorite quote from the office:
”I Love inside jokes. I’d love to be a part of one someday.”
-Michael Scott

fun facts!

- I’m an enneagram 4. (Which basically means I think everyday moments are movie worthy moments. Soundtrack and all.)
- I wanted to be on SNL for my entire childhood.
- My husband never laughs at my jokes and that’s my lot in life. Keeps me humble.
- We have 2 weird, wild, and wonderful boys.
- My drawers are full of black and white stripes, yet it’s the first thing I gravitate towards in a store still. As if I need more.
- I pretended to like coffee to win over Steve’s heart. It worked. And now coffee has won my heart.
- My favorite store is The Dollar Tree. Followed by Anthropologie. Balance.
- I love bloopers, especially news bloopers. Do yourself a favor and look them up on Youtube! It’s a great “pick me up'“!

faq : ABOUT YOUR photography SESSION

  • Generally sessions last about an hour. I like to shoot quickly and capture smiles while they are genuine and not painful or forced :)
A few factors that may make the shoot take longer:
    - outfit changes
    - location changes
    - unhappy children that need some time to warm up (aka need sugar bribes)

If we feel good about what we got in 30 minutes, we may end the shoot there. If everyone is having fun and the light is still good, we may extend an extra half hour. If the good vibes are flowing than I am all for it!

  • Gone are the days of matchy-matchy uniforms in photos. The best advice I can give is to pick out a color palette of 3-4 colors and stick to that scheme. Think coordinating colors / patterns and not identical matches.

  • YES! I am all for you bringing along a friend that will help you feel cool, confident, and comfortable.

You can also show me inspiration photos or ideas for certain poses you like. (But don’t worry if you have no clue what poses you like or how to pose- I’m on your team and we will make MAGIC!)

  • Welcome to the PNW! Rain is as common here as a “that’s what she said” joke is to Michael Scott. It happens! And we have options:
-Keep our date & time no matter what and just charge ahead with boots and umbrellas!
-Be flexible by a few hours that day to find the best window of time (it almost always lets up at some point)
    -Watch the forecast and reschedule.

When we first moved here from Southern California we were told that only tourists use umbrellas- but guess what! I think those clear bubble umbrellas make really cute props and a shoot in the rain can be totally romantic. The glass is half full around here, folks!

  • That’s an easy no. If you wake up on the day of the shoot with a big fat pimple between the eyes, I will hook you up with a simple removal and your photos will look like YOU.
I will not remove wrinkles, grey hairs, pounds, or full face breakouts. However if this kind of airbrushing magic is something you would like, I can outsource to a professional editor.

We are au naturale around here!

  • Within 2 weeks! Sometimes sooner ;)

I will deliver the online gallery of edited images to you via email (I do not give out raw files). The gallery is super easy to navigate and downloading is simple (there’s also a step by step guide to walk you through it). The galleries do expire after 2 weeks, so please make sure to prioritize downloading and backing up your images.
